The staff at Suffolk Madrid will arrange to meet you at the airport and will escort you to your chosen accommodation. Following your arrival, you will be given a thorough orientation to Spain during an orientation program away from Madrid. Locations vary each semester, but past orientations have been run in Caceres and Galicia. The program includes intensive Spanish lessons, an academic orientation, and many excursions to local historical, cultural and environmental places of importance.
Students come to the Madrid Campus from Eastern and Western Europe, Spain, Africa, Asia and the U.S., making for a truly international and cross-cultural setting. The Madrid Campus offers 24-hour online access to Suffolk University's library resources in Boston, as well as maintaining a permanent collection of books and CD-ROM resources of its own. The Madrid Campus provides computer access and individual e-mail accounts for students.
One of the reasons that our Madrid program is so popular is the amount of excursions that are included in the program fee. During the semester you will get to see many of Spain's most popular cities.
Frequent extra-curricular events are also offered in Madrid, such as walking tours, museum visits, bull fights, etc. Gourmet dinners are often arranged, and provide a good way for students to get to know one another. The Athletics Department organizes soccer, basketball and tennis leagues as well as ski trips. The Madrid Campus also makes arrangements for students to use the facilities at a local gym for a moderate fee.
Additionally, cultural activities are planned in conjunction with Universidad San Pablo CEU, a Spanish university in Madrid. During these activities you will have the chance to meet Spanish students, communicate in both Spanish and English, and really have the opportunity to learn more about the culture.
